Welcome to the second edition of the SIOR ADVISIOR ! We look forward to hearing your feedback and improving the AdviSIOR for our members.

President’s Corner

While we are just past the halfway mark for the year, we have already surpassed last year in many aspects. Our membership is set to grow by end of the year in comparison to year end 2016 and our annual golf tournament had an unprecedented 280 golfers in attendance. I would like to express my gratitude to all our members and sponsors that helped make this event a great success for Canada Central Chapter.

In July we started rolling out an ad campaign on BisNow that many of would have seen in their morning briefs since July. The aim of campaign was to promote the SIOR brand among the occupiers and drive them to use an SIOR member for their next real estate transactions. We will be launching another online campaign with the same goal in the near future. Keep an eye and out and make sure you share on your websites or social media channels as well.

Looking ahead to the rest of the year we are planning some exciting events in Fall for our members. The end of the year will be capped off in December by the Annual Broker of the Year Awards where we celebrate the best and brightest in our industry.

Finally, I would request you, our members, to reach out to us and let us know how the Chapter can help deliver value to you. We look forward to your feedback.

Q&A with our newest members

Charlene Liu

Business Development Bank of Canada

How long have you been working in CRE? What do you enjoy the most about working in it?

I have been working as a commercial account manager at Business Development Bank of Canada. I have been working in commercial real estate for a year. I enjoy being involved in many different aspects within commercial real estate i.e. the sales process, working with designers, contractors, designers etc.

How did you first hear about SIOR?

My contact Ken Kamminga recommended SIOR to me.

What convinced you to get your designation and become a member?

The more I learned about SIOR the more I understand its benefits. I am impressed by its vast real estate network and the benefits of that.

As a new member, what are you looking to get out of being a part of SIOR?

As a new member, I am looking to get connected with real estate professionals within the group and partner with them for future business opportunities

What advice would you give to any brokers out there who are unsure about joining SIOR?

Real estate is a people’s business, like other business it heavily relies on the sources and connections that you have to provide your client an optimal solution by exceeding their expectation. Joining SIOR is one of the most effective and efficient way to get there.

Robert Frost – GWL Realty Advisors

How long have you been working in CRE? What do you enjoy the most about working in it?

started on the brokerage side of the business in 2005, moved over to GWLRA in 2010.  What I love most about commercial real estate is definitely the people.  Generally speaking, the people in commercial real estate are fantastic to deal with on a day to day basis

word of mouth, existing members

What convinced you to get your designation and become a member?

I saw some of the events that were being put on by SIOR, and thought they were great quality events.  I recently transitioned from working on our office portfolio to our industrial portfolio, and thought SIOR would be a great organization to join to increase exposure on the industrial side of the business in the GTA

As a new member, what are you looking to get out of being a part of SIOR?

Increase GWLRA brand within SIOR, and increased exposure to the members

What advice would you give to any brokers out there who are unsure about joining SIOR?

great way to enhance relationships within the industry, commercial real estate remains a relationship based business so it’s critical to be an active participant in an organization like SIOR to increase the individual brand awareness.

We asked our members what they love the most of being a part of SIOR Canada Central Chapter and here is what they had to say!

2017 Golf Tournament

Thank you to everyone who attended the 45th Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, June 5th. A special thank you to all the sponsors that helped make the event a great success. The event was a great success with 290 industry leaders enjoying a fantastic day of golfing, networking and dining and RattleSnake Point Golf Club. The event raised over $5,500 in support of Wounded Warrior Canada, honoring and supporting Canada’s ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, First Responders and their families. We look forward to many more years of this fantastic event.

We would also like to thank all of our sponsors that helped make the event a great success.
